Serina Hu
I am a graduate student at MIT studying representation theory under Pavel Etingof. I am interested in representation theory in symmetric tensor categories, and most of my current work focuses on the higher Verlinde category Ver_4^+. You can contact me at [firstname][lastname][at]mit[dot]edu.
When not doing math, I enjoy video games, puzzles, and playing the piano. I track my music listening using ListenBrainz and I occasionally write code on github.com.

Teaching and Service
- I was a TA for 18.102 Functional Analysis in Spring 2024, a TA for 18.03 Differential Equations in Fall 2023, and the manager of the MIT Math Learning Center Fall 2022 to Spring 2023.
- I was the director of MathROOTS @ MIT in 2024, the assistant director in 2023, and a residential counselor in 2022. MathROOTS @ MIT is an intense 2-week summer program for high-potential high schoolers. I highly recommend the experience for both students and staff!
- I was a PRIMES mentor from 2021 to 2024, including being named a Lusztig mentor in 2024. I mentored a research project in 2021.
- I was a DRP mentor in 2022 and 2023.
- I was a CA for Math 132 Differential Topology in Spring 2021, a CA for Math 231a Algebraic Topology in Fall 2020, and a CA for Math 55 Fall 2018-Spring 2020.
- I grade and teach for Math-M-Addicts, a weekend enrichment program in NYC that I attended in high school.
- Along with Nitya Mani, I organized the MIT math department annual retreat in 2022 after its COVID hiatus.
- During COVID, some friends and I organized an online math summer camp, MORPHS (Math Online Reading Programs for High Schoolers).
